Heroin Epidemic Models

چکیده

The use of illicit drugs has been on the rise in America. It is very detrimental on society, as fatal overdose is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States (about the same as motor vehicle crashes). Of all illicit drugs, one drug that has an severe adverse effect on a community as a whole is heroin. This paper will discuss two mathematical modelsthe White and Comiskey model and a newly introduced model proposed by the author, describing heroin epidemics. We will show the existence of stable equilibrium from both models, suggesting both a situation where heroin use is eradicated and one where it remains an endemic.

Global asymptotic properties of a heroin epidemic model with treat-age

In this paper, a model for the use of heroin with treat-age is formulated based on the principles of mathematical epidemiology. The model accounts for relapse rate that depends on how long the host has been in treatment for heroin addiction. An explicit formula for the reproductive number of the heroin spread is obtained. By using the method of Lyapunov functional, we established the dynamical ...
